Year of Study: Pre-Theology II

Home Parish: Nativity, Menlo Park

1. When did you first think about becoming a priest?

I converted to Catholicism and the first sustained thoughts of becoming a priest came to me around that time. I dismissed them at first but they persisted and grew, until I eventually confronted them.

2. Please tell a bit of your background before entering the seminary: did you enter from high school, working, college, etc.?

I worked in the legal technology space for a few years, living a pretty typical life for a young adult in the Bay Area. It was comfortable and I wasn’t unhappy, but when the time came I left it all behind and haven’t been disappointed since.

3. What are some of your hobbies or things you enjoy doing during your free time?

I enjoy reading, hiking, cooking, camping, and traveling. Following the Sharks, Giants, and 49ers helps me to unwind.

4. Who is your favorite saint?

Our Blessed Mother, first and foremost, along with Saints Augustine of Hippo, Ambrose of Milan, Francis of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, Francis de Sales, and Ignatius of Loyola are among my favorites.

5. What has been your favorite spiritual reading book?

The Spiritual Exercises and Introduction to the Devout Life have been guiding influences. Any collection of saints’ lives interests me too.

6. What part of priestly life do you feel most drawn toward?

The sacraments!

7. What would you say to a man considering applying for the seminary?

God can call us to our vocations in unique ways. Listen, pray, and get in touch with priests, spiritual directors, even friends and family who can help you properly discern.
